A good laptop backpack is one of those purchases you barely think about until a bad one lets you down, with a broken zipper, a sagging strap, or a soaked laptop on a rainy commute. The best bags protect your gear, organize your daily carry, and stay comfortable whether you are sprinting through an airport or walking to class. It pays to choose carefully.
We looked at popular travel and work backpacks across sizes and styles, from TSA-friendly carry-ons to women’s-focused designs with USB charging. This review weighs capacity, protection, comfort, and the small features that make a bag genuinely pleasant to live with every day.

Design & Build
Capacity and organization define this category. The MATEIN travel laptop backpack and its extra-large sibling both fit 17-inch laptops and are TSA-friendly, opening flat for security without unpacking. The SHRRADOO extra-large backpack targets men who need maximum space for work and college, while the MATEIN 15.6-inch model in grey keeps things more compact for daily commutes. On the women’s side, the LOVEVOOK backpack adds a giant tumbler holder and a purse-like aesthetic, and the USB-charging women’s backpack blends a professional look with anti-theft pockets and waterproofing.
Performance
Where these bags earn their keep is in daily use. TSA-approved lay-flat designs, as on the MATEIN travel models, speed you through airport security, and padded laptop compartments keep your machine cushioned against knocks. Water-resistant fabrics protect against sudden rain, a genuine relief for commuters. The USB charging ports on the LOVEVOOK and women’s business backpacks let you top up a phone from a power bank on the move, and anti-theft rear pockets keep valuables secure in crowds. Comfort comes from padded, adjustable straps that distribute weight well even when the bag is fully loaded.
Pros & Cons
- Strong protection: Padded compartments and water-resistant fabric guard your laptop.
- TSA-friendly options: Lay-flat designs speed airport security.
- Smart features: USB charging and anti-theft pockets on select models.
- Comfortable carry: Padded, adjustable straps handle heavy loads.
- Bulk when full: Extra-large bags can feel oversized when packed.
- Style varies: Larger travel bags are less formal for office settings.
Alternatives to Consider
Frequent flyers who pack heavy should choose the extra-large MATEIN or SHRRADOO backpacks for maximum TSA-friendly capacity. Commuters with a lighter load will prefer the compact MATEIN 15.6-inch model, which is easier to carry day to day. Women who want a professional look with modern conveniences should consider the USB-charging women’s backpack or the LOVEVOOK, which combines a purse aesthetic with practical laptop protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does TSA-friendly actually mean?
It means the laptop compartment opens flat so you can pass through airport security without removing your laptop, as with the MATEIN travel models. It saves time and hassle when flying.
Are these backpacks waterproof?
Most are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof, shrugging off rain and splashes to protect your gear. For heavy downpours, a dedicated rain cover adds extra peace of mind.
How big a laptop can these fit?
It varies by model. The MATEIN and SHRRADOO travel bags accommodate up to 17-inch laptops, while the compact and women’s models are sized for 15.6-inch machines.
Is a USB charging port useful?
It is convenient if you carry a power bank, letting you charge your phone from an external pocket without opening the bag. Note the port itself does not store power; you supply the battery inside.
Verdict
The right laptop backpack depends on your load and style. The MATEIN travel backpacks are the best all-round TSA-friendly picks, the SHRRADOO extra-large is ideal for heavy packers, and the USB-charging women’s backpack blends professional looks with practical features. Prioritize protection and comfort, and a good bag will serve you reliably for years.
